Tent size requirements

For much of the year you can bring almost any sized tent or caravan to Sun Haven Valley but during the last half of July & August we have to impose restrictions in order to meet the health & safety/fire requirements for a 3m spacing between tents.

We shall require that you leave a 1.5m (5 foot) strip down either side of your pitch which must be left free of cars, tents, gazebo’s & other “accommodation’ or major equipment - though it can be used for tables, chairs etc.

This means that we only have a limited number of pitches that will take tents more than 5m wide (lengths up to 10m) but this not usually a problem if your tent is a basic rectangular shape.

On our pitch sizes sheet you will find a table of “maximum tent sizes” . This is the area in which you must fit your tent, gazebo & other structures. Please ensure that your needs are no more than this usable area given, as alternative accommodation is not available if you cannot fit onto the pitch.

If you are in any doubt please call us, ideally with the fottprint size of your tent - or the tent manufacturer & name so that we can look it up on the internet.

Tent pitching requirements

Below is a diagram ( meant to be helpful !) - on each side of the tent must be a 1.5m strip and we have allowed the statutory 2.0m from the road egde - which can be used to park the car. If you are pitched on one of the islands back-to-back with another pitch you will need to leave a 1.5m gap to the fence.

If your pitch is next to one of our 3m "spacing strips" or a pathway, the inter-tent spacing needs to be 6m across the strip so you will still have to leave the 1.5m gap. These 3m gaps that have been left between some pitches may not be used by anyone, especially not for parking or storage.

Caravan Siting requirements

Again, for much of the year you will have as much room as you can possibly use - but during Whitsun week, the last half of July & August we have to enforce a 6m gap between caravans of which 3m may be taken by an awning or a tent of less than 4.6 sq.m. To ensure this, again the 1.5mstrip around the pitch must be left clear (Caravans/awnings must also be 2m from the road – the space often used for car parking and on the central island they must be 1.5m clear of the dividing fence).

For simplicty, we have standardised that, unless we agree an alternative, your caravan will have to be on the left side of the pitch (looking from the road) with the wheel axle parallel to the road and the side of the caravan 1.5m from the pitch boundary. (Please see diagram below (not to scale).
On our pitch sizes sheet you will find a table of “maximum tent ” sizes. Usually a caravan & awning will fit onto a pitch with a "maximum tent" width of 4.5m of more - which is 90% of our pitches. Please ensure that your caravan, awning and other equipment are no bigger than the usable area given, as alternative accommodation is not available if you cannot fit the pitch.

Where 3m gaps have been left between pitches these may not be used by anyone, particularly excluding parking or storage.
